I am so glad you are, literally, taking steps towards an healthier, active lifestyle.

From The Beginning

This program started in the Spring of 2022 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The purpose of this walking program was to just get us outside and moving. I wanted to encourage and help my fellow breast cancer survivors discover the joys and many health benefits that walking has to offer. Thunder Bay has some amazing places to walk too.

Walking Program Overview

We walk weekly, usually on Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm. We meet and walk in different locations around the City of Thunder Bay. The exact location is announced in a weekly newsletter that is send via email a few days before, usually on Sunday mornings. Walks are subject to change, so be sure to read the latest email updates.

The program is a “fluid program” based on an average of the group’s needs and desires. It will change in intensity with some walks being more challenging than others. An effort will be made in each weekly newsletter to describe and rate the difficulty of each walk. Feel free to adjust any walk, shortening or lengthening it, to your level of comfort and ability.

Keep in mind, if you haven’t been out walking in a while, if you just finished treatments or are still in treatments, you may not be able to walk as much as you use to. If you have any concerns about the pace or distance, please feel free to approach me at the start or anytime during the walk. You can also email any concerns ahead to [email protected]

And most importantly, be sure to consult with your physician before participating in this program.

The walks will happen regardless of rain or shine. Please dress and prepare appropriately for the weather. If it is raining, feel free to bring an umbrella. If it is sunny, be sure to wear a hat, sunglasses and apply sunscreen. In the event of approaching bad weather, please watch your emails. Walks will
be cancelled due to lightening, severe storm, or other such inclement weather.

There is no cost associated with this program. You can come to as many walks as you are able.

There may be parking fees associated with some of the locations. You are fully responsible for these parking fees or other costs not under the control of the organizer.

Please do try to be on time for the walks. We start promptly at the time scheduled and stated in the email newsletter.
